Water skiing at Mud Lake. This is in the same area where the Marina is today. Taken maybe around 1957, the first skier to come to shore is my brother, Dean, and the close up shot is of Mike Sanders. Dick Ireland's family has one of the boats. The white and green boat was ours and the guy sitting in the chair while skiing was always there. We had lots of fun at Mud lake but I bet it was very contaminated being surrounded by oil wells. Or maybe not? This was my first effort at editing home movies and I am aware that two spots repeat.

  • Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it. I used to go horse back riding every weekend. My family all water skied but my mom thought it was too crowded and I was to little, which I probably was. I forgot about the race car track.

  • I really enjoyed see this with Mike Sanders in it, he & I (Chuck Gardner) were good buddies at Culver City Schools in the 50's.

  • Great video!!

  • I remember my first attempt at water skiing was also there. Never got another chance, but it was a blast! Does anyone remember a small amusement park near there that had a roller coaster? I think it was called Hoppy Land.

  • I thought this was Balona Creek?

  • Love Culver City.

    Thank you for posting this.

  • I remember this lake.

Channel 5 used to show races here in the early fifties.

I used to go swimming here, or wading as I was very young.

Hoppyland and the stables were close by as was a small Midget ace car track.

I could disappear in the wetlands behind there and not see another human all day.

    Thanks for this video.
