News Update: Ford recalls Windstar Van

The AP reports that Ford is recalling it's older model Windstar van in the United States and Canada. They cite concerns over rear axles, which could corrode and potentially break. The model years in question are from 1998 to 2003 sold or registered in states where the use of large amounts of road salt could cause corrosion. This includes Canada -- as well as New England, the Mid Atlantic states, and the Great Lakes region. The AP reports that The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began its investigation in May "after receiving 234 Windstar driver complaints of rear axle problems." Two crashes were reported, and one driver indicated that "the axle snapped in half after hitting a pothole, causing the tires to blow and vehicle to strike a guard rail." Ford will begin to notify owners starting September 27, according to documents filed Thursday with the The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It further stated that repairs would be made at no cost to owners. Shares in Ford rose 33 cents, or 3 percent at $11.50 in morning trading.

This recall is a pain in the bummmm... i had just put over 2,000$ into of work like new tires, brake lines, rear brakes, a coolant resova, and so on to bring it to them two days later in august and here it is feb and i still dont have it back nor do they have the axles but they now came out with another recall so i have to wait even longer....

I had to pull my complete car audio competition equipment from my WIndstar and return to as close to factory condition as possible for this recall... just to find out my axle was fine.... oh well, time to put it all back in.... FBS

if you took care of your car you would know that your axle is going bad. that's your own fault. them chevy's rust out all the time and if you took it back they would tell you "tell someone who cares."

Sept. 4, 2010 my rear axle snapped in 2 on I-80 going 65mph with my 2 children, brother and his son on the way home from my aunts funeral. I had no warning and I had to cut across 3 lanes of traffic and miraculasly nobody hit us. I though we were going to be killed. There is already a class action law suit on the Ford Windstar Rear Axle snapping and Ford is waiting till Sept 27, 2010 to send out recall letters. Somebody will get killed. Please don't drive your Windstar without getting it check
