Q: What is a untethered jailbreak?
A: An untethered jailbreak means that you can safely power cycle (shutdown/restart) your device without booting through Redsn0w.

- Step by step directions -
1. Download most recent version of iTunes, iOS 5.0.1, and redsn0w.
2. Launch redsn0w as an administrator.
3. Click on "Extras" and then click "Select IPSW"
4. Select the iOS 5.0.1 firmware that you downloaded earlier.
5. Click back to the main screen, and then click "Jailbreak"
6. Make sure "Install Cydia" is checked, then click next.
- Device MUST be PLUGGED IN and TURNED OFF -
7. Put iPhone into DFU Mode - on screen instructions.
(Power button 3 seconds, home + power button 10 seconds, home button 10 seconds).
8. Wait for reboot, leave device plugged in.
9. That's it, open Cydia and enjoy your untethered jailbreak!

Q: I keep getting the "No Data Fetched" message, why?
A: Before you jailbreak through Redsn0w, make sure that you manually click "Select IPSW" and select your iOS firmware.
Q: Will I lose my applications and music if I jailbreak?
A: No, you will not lose any information if you jailbreak.

im using windows 7 and it has downloaded as a zip folder and when i right click on it it doesnt come up run as adminstrator, any suggestions ?

For some reason I got to "Select IPSW" but the file needed does not show up!? BTW I'm running Windows Vista so Im not sure if this has anything to do with it. Any solutions?

@D12303 You need to find out where your IPSW file downloaded.

@BrytonW I know where it downloaded the problem is when I go to select it, it doesn't show :(

@D12303 Try moving it to the desktop and then selecting it there.
On Windows Vista you might have to run the program in Windows Compatibility mode, but try that after moving the file to your desktop first. Also try redownloading it.
