I don't remember this sign off, but then again I didn't stay up until 2am back then. I think all TV signed off around 2am even local channels. Why do people need to be up past then? Get to bed!

My parents had cable in the late 70s. the old brown box with buttons connected to the cablebox with a wire. HBO was the ONLY channel and it shut down just before 2 am. Why do I remember this? My father worked from 5pm to 2 am. Thank you for posting!

@annaeharrispink Most of the time, the carrier was just cut and you got static. Even into the 1980s, it was common for many stations to go dark overnight.
