Available at http://www.alphabushcraft.co.uk This is my personal cooking system preference. The BCB Crusader cooking kit is highly versatile and super hard wearing. Cook on it using wood/coal/esbit/hexamine/trioxane/denatured alcohol/petrol/alcohol gel/sterno. Will last you a lifetime! I have made some modifications to make it work fully for me. Demonstration and review.

  • why not just fill the cup in the cooker and light it why do you need that little stove.???

  • @drivin69 Not using the stove will mean you need to use 2 to 3 times more fuel to do the same job. Its just much more efficient.

  • Any chance of a metal lid for the cup instead of the peice of plastic?

  • @ginners2002 BCB do not make a metal lid for this unfortunately. Some people fashion a lid out of aluminium foil which i believe is very effective. Personally, i tend not to cook with this on an open wood fire, i prefer to use an aluminium mess tin for that purpose. Also, i like being able to see when the water is boiling. Cheers.

  • There is a metal lid available for the crusadercup canteenshop has them I believe.

  • @Alloutdoor1 i would still try..? just because the little holes are in the thing you use does not mean it burns any longer i would bet that the open container the same size would burn just as long,. or it seems to me like it should work.. in thery at least.. not to hassle you just some thing i bet if you tryed would amaze you..

  • @protuberant Thanks for the tips. Will try and keep them in mind. Am now using a modified vargo stove with a cotton insert. Saying that, the system i was using in this video wasnt half bad. I must admit there was a strong whiff of alcohol when using it which, as you say, hints at the inefficiency of the stove. Could i cook on it easily, yes. Cheers!

  • @Alloutdoor1

Thanks for the vid! Because alcohol needs at least 1.25 inch clearance for effective combustion, your use of the mod grill and Trangia knockoff would not likely give you the top fuel efficiency. You can try putting fiberglass or carbon felt in the ring, and it will boost the alcohol's efficiency and cut the boiling time. You can check the efficiency by smelling for the fume incomplete combustion gives off.

  • Cheers mate great vid.

  • So can you put this into a direct wood fire flame? or in embers? never mind you answered it in the last few seconds:)
