This ball machine drill will help you work on your tennis forehand directional control. I've set up cones that I'm aiming for. First, I hit forehands crosscourt. Second, I hit forehands down the line. Finally, I alternate between crosscourt and down the line forehands.

This drill is also great exercise / great for developing proper footwork. Moving around the cone works on the various steps I need to move around the tennis court correctly.

I highly recommend you use a drill like this one, as opposed to just hitting on a ball machine with no purpose, the next time you hit the tennis court to practice. Make the most out of your practice sessions!

  • Hey Will,

    this is some good hitting.

But when you do the xcourt and dtl drill, is the dtl shot meant to be offensive or just another placement shot to move your opponent?

  • @FHC3JC Really depends on the situation. It can be both.

  • Hey Will. You know what it would be really entertaining? And I'm sure a lot of people would also enjoy it. Film a match with you playing against someone and upload it , here and on fyb. If you have the time and if you want to of course:P

  • i wish i have a private court+ machine drill

  • Will dude, you suck. Try more power in your shots!

  • Bad and wrong drill, teaches wrong recovery on court.

balls come always same pace and speed, teaches nothing .

only thing its good for is for technique . the cone is not needed .

  • i wished i had a ball machine

  • I think it would be better if you are doing the Low-High motion.

  • 00:41 Shot

  • How fast are the balls off the machine?

  • Thanks for the videos, especially from the point of view from a lefty (like me) :D

  • i wish i had the money for such an expensive machine :(
