Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a learning disability in which an individual hears sounds but cannot process them correctly into words and language.

All my life I've tried to fit into a school system that didn't fit me. It wasn't till recently that we tried creating a learning style that fit me, verses trying to fit myself somewhere I didn't. It's unfortunate that I've spent my whole life with trial and error and error and error. But I hope there are people out there who haven't made the same mistake.

  • Brilliant, daughter has APD + Well below average working/verbal memory. Teacher told her she done "bad work" the other day when she was trying her best ... she is 7 and is already sounding similar to vid x

  • @3KarenClarke Ugh, I hate that. Teachers ought to be required to take a course on learning differences so they can be accommodating for every student and understand their needs. I'm sorry that this teacher lacks understanding, and doesn't see how bright your daughter really is. And I wish you luck, because I can tell you from experience that school will be quite an endeavor not only for her, but for you as a parent.

  • this was great - my daughter has APD (she is 10) would you like to join us on Auditory Processing disorder Australia/New Zealand, (on facebook) you could copy this on to the group for all the mums and people who are going through this too

  • @happy2beify Sure, I'd love to join! I'll check that out right now.

  • I have PDD Which mean I learn at a lower grade level. My fathers answer was military school. I had to listen to drill sargents tell me how stupid I was and would never amount to anything. I hated it. My father said it was for my own good. I disagreed. I got out got an old computer and taught myself everything I wanted to know by the Internet. Military school just fails you at everything and tells you you didn't earn a diploma.

  • @disneysongtape That's HORRIBLE! How could anyone possibly think that degrading a person would be for the better? Props to you for toughing that out, and teaching yourself at your own pace.

  • I liked your video very much!!!

  • Does anyone who has apd also have dyslexia, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) or get migraines? I think they are related.

  • @ChiaraVideos My parents are old fashioned they think anyone with a disability should be put away and forgotten. They think it is a waste of government money to help them. If they can't make it in a regukar public school the don't deserve an education. Which explans why I am still so into Sesame Street.
