Interview with Bruce Mau: ImagineSudbury

I think that one of the things that we talked about in the presentation, is the fact that we do so many things without considering the aesthetic. Partly because the, I think, partly because the conditions are pretty extreme. So you start with an extreme condition in this location of the world, and um you respond in an extreme way, you engineer an extreme response, and the engineering takes over and the aesthetic goes by the wayside, and I think the, the city as a place is not a beautiful place. And as a consequence thats a big opportunity and it is also a big challenge, because it is constantly sending out a message that its not a beautiful place, and we start from some, someone mentioned it last night, we start from a kind of, from a cliché that is no longer accurate, a mining town. Although here is mining here, it is more of town than a mining town. And it needs to have a more suitable form and more suitable status as a place, as a culture.
Special thanks must go out Chris Elliott for making these videos possible.
