Along with The Art of War and The Prince, this is one of my favorite books. The maxim I apply most in this day and age when anyone can say anything against you on the net is Maxim 279.

"Do not respond to those who contradict you. You have to distinguish whether the contradiction comes from cunning or vulgarity. It is not always obstinacy, but may be artfulness. Notice this, for in the first case one may get into difficulties, in the other into danger......"
