Joan Sutherland sings The Nuns' Chorus live in Melbourne in 1989

This was Joan's farewell concert to Melbourne, and it included quite a lot of wonderful items from the world of operetta. Douglas Gamley conducted. In "The Nuns' Chorus", all of the house lights were turned off at the start and Joan, dressed as pictured, was illuminated by a single spot in the vastness of the Melbourne Concert Hall. Talk about an incredible moment. Then, of course, she filled the hall with that trademark sound of hers - opulent and soaring. She was 63 at the time.

@ChrisStockslager I checked the Appendix to her autobiography, and it isn't listed for that concert. The single CD which was brought out in Australia includes only about half of her items, but it still appears that she didn't sing the Czardas.

I attended the concert - and this certainly was a highlight! Dame Joan was in magnificent voice.
