Problems involving the upper airway are a common cause of decreased athletic performance. The treadmill allows the clinician to examine the upper airway of an equine athlete while it is exercising at high speed. This type of dynamic evaluation is very useful in determining if the horse has an upper airway abnormality affecting performance. There are certain abnormalities of the upper airway that only become evident during exercise and will not be seen during a resting endoscopic evaluation. The examination is tailored to the type of work and the level of fitness for each horse, mimicking the speed and distance that the horse typically works. The endoscopic examination is recorded and evaluated in slow motion so that subtle abnormalities are identified.

  • @10mdawn Im not being rude, or anything, and i go with the horse flow, but i think they use the whip just so the horse can keep running, cause as they said, the FLOOR will be moving, if the horse started to slow down on a fast moving treadmill, it will cause an accident, that's just my part of the story :P you can agree or disagree, but im 13 and only been riding for like... 4 years, but i dont own a horse, so, i can be just a useless junk at telling bout horses. Thanks if you read this

  • That's amazing. Especially the Thoroughbred. O.O

Hopefully this kind of high-tech veterinary science will become available to the common horse owner in time. Horses are living longer and healthier as science advances.

  • wtf ?! fuckin stupid people!

  • @Kaite1211 Mustangs are not faster than thoroughbred racers, but any horse at full gallop is true sight to see.

  • This is really fascinating to watch! To see a thoroughbred at full speed up close! WOW! That it truly some power and stamina! Great video!

  • The first horse is like 'Da fuq?' but the TB, Hackney, and the others are like 'Observe.'

  • @Kaite1211 I'm pretty sure a mustang's top speed is around 35mph while a thoroughbred is about 45mph. Those speeds might not be exact, but an average thoroughbred is much faster than an average mustang. Now, an average quarter horse has a chance against an average thoroughbred for at least a short distance.

  • @JetXBigBrown-Not only is that whip important for keeping the horse at a consistent speed during the examination, but just imagine what would happen if that horse suddenly slowed down and hit the concrete behind him while galloping. The horse would probably be seriously injured.

  • @TheKitsunae If the horse were to fall it would automatically hit the kill switch. Which will stop the treadmill...I don't think your smart enough to own a horse if you judging over a silly little comment like that. Pathetic.
