Here is another blast from the past from Big Don Productions courtesy of a Sony Beta Video Recorder circa. 1980.
Betamax was the choice of the discerning teenager at the time & this proved to be the case over time. It was only the usual product marketing that saw VHS win out in the end, but that was only because VHS VTR's were cheaper to make. You got what you paid for back then as you do now & any person worth his salt in the video game would tell you Beta was king. Even a purist such as I ended up with a few of each, those were the days my friends & although a little Welsh I do like Mark Hopkin & she did out grow her Welshness in the end. ☺
This grab should be self explanatory but apart from it being a reminder of the program Beatbox that ran for three seasons on ABC TV (back then there were only five TV channels across Metropolitan Australia) this clip gets my social analytical mind juices flowing, it was five years into a Federal Labour Government with many social engineers in place, but still finding their way, The ABC had been Corporatised in the same year.
This Beatbox Rap was a not so subtle plea by the producers to allow the program to continue, but also lamenting the prospect of these ABC trained teens finding themselves out of work & expecting them to be given employment as if it were their right to it as ex casual ABC trained personnel, it's an attitude that still permeates the publicly funded ABC & also shows the general attitude of many, but not all so called Public Servants of the time & indeed today.
One can only hope that the changing tide of political correctness will result in a much leaner but more efficient National Broadcaster when the current socialist ALP/Greens Government is tossed into the abyss by a fed up electorate whenever the next election is held.
The video camera pictured by me is the same as the modal used in this grab, it's a Sony BMC-100P which although obviously a Beta Video Camera & one of the first to be free of a separate recording device produced very inferior video, but mine did the job for the times & a workman should never blame his tools of course. The Nine OB Sticker was given to me by some kind fellow at Nine's Sydney Bunker still based at Willoughby NSW to this day. Time for a move boys ? Go on do a Seven, always thought Ray needed to be put in his rightful Martin Place. ☺
There is the odd person of interest in the credits. For example I wonder if The ABC would have used the likes of Angry Anderson if they knew one day he would be standing as a candidate for The Nationals....
....time is a funny thing, indeed Mr. Anderson can be seen on SBS TV in their rather good series : " Housos" He would have got angry if I had not given him a guernsey.

Some scenes in this look like Chatswood NSW & The Above Is Rated MA
Before any ABN2 or TCN9 characters call The Peelers, this video camera is mine & as mentioned the Nine sticker was gifted to me.
Thank you viewer for taking a Captain Cook at this effort & also will say I had nothing what so ever to do with Beatbox, save being a viewer, it was an enjoyable part of my well spent youth, but if a viewer that has production knowledge of Beatbox would like to question any of my comments about it or The ABC please feel free to do so, I'll also stand corrected if need be.
A Person That Never Stands Corrected Can Never Be Trusted To Stand.
I do miss the days of Z plated vehicles.

"... finding themselves out of work & expecting them to be given employment as if it were their right ..." Don this ideology seems to be everywhere now ... GMH is almost a government department. Union employees who are like "job elite", compared to the cash-in-hand bods who are heartily sick and tired of being kept down by the union mob because their greedy entitlements stifles a job being created for someone else. Employers just can't pay the entitlements eg the little corner pizza shop.
