With a pickup as hot as an EMG, you're going to get break up really early. You'll be fine as long as you're not looking for the amp to clean up much as any usable volume. One trick might be to switch the 12ax7 with a 12at7, which is a lower gain tube.

that's actually a BlackJack 21, but your question is relevant - the Fuchs is made with top notch components, and there's no getting out of the fact that the Class 5 is a mass production amp. The Fuchs is more responsive with cleaner harmonics. The Marshall is more of a straight ahead, one trick pony. It's just too cool and such a bargain tho!

I think it's a steal at $400. If I was looking for straight tone, there are much better amps out there, but they're also a lot more expensive. If you need one killer amp, buy a Dr. Z, or go bananas and get a Swart atomic space tone (maybe the best combo I've ever heard). We're talking $2k tho....
