No wonder Gisele MacKenzie was dubbed "TV Favorite!" Here Gisele turns her attention to comedy as she sings the Frank Sinatra hit, Love and Marriage, from the live Your Hit Parade broadcast on November 26, 1955. How did they do all this on live TV?? Keep your eye on the background as a hillbilly nurse shows up to treat one of the drunken guests and at the end when Gisele tosses her bridal 'bouquet' and knocks a wedding member out! Note the groom looks just like Goober from the much later Andy Griffith Show. This clip reveals why the great comics of the day recruited Gisele for their television shows (Jack Benny & Sid Caesar). Raymond Scott is seen conducting the orchestra.

  • The song was originally written for Frank Sinatra (as "The Stage Manager") to sing on the "PRODUCERS' SHOWCASE" version of "Our Town" [NBC, September 19, 1955], and it became a big hit for him {which is why it was featured on "YHP" as late as that November}. Later used as the theme for "MARRIED WITH CHILDREN" (1987-'97).

  • Gisele was a good friend of mine, and didn't mind telling the world that she was a Sinatra fan...she loved singing Frank's songs and those of her dear friend, Nat King Cole.

  • Surprised you didn't mention that 'Your Hit Parade' was broadcast in living color on NBC! Unfortunately, there was no technology to record it....hence the B&W kinescopes.

  • Ooops, you information isn't correct. Your Hit Parade was NOT broadcast in color during it's peak years with Gisele MacKenzie, Dorothy Collins, Russ Arms & Snooky Lanson...it was during it's final season on NBC-TV (1957-1958) with an all new cast. Gisele left the show for her own NBC TV show, and the rest were sadly dropped.

  • Well, that's news! I would never associate this

    song w/ Our Town.

I read Paul Newman played George Gibbs.

A few years ago, at the end of his career, he

    played the Stage Manager.

"The day is winding down like a tired clock...

    You get some sleep too.

  • I remember Giselle from YOUR HIT PARADE and how she always looked so lovely and ladylike. Seeing her in this skit was lots of fun - a complete departure from her usual persona. Great diction too! Looks like she was having fun. Thanks for posting.
