This is an unedited kite aerial video sequence from Anaehoomalu Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii. The video was made roughly one week after the 2011 tsunami, and shows some of the damage to the beach, retaining wall, and fishpond.

There was a very clean onshore wind. No hard gusts, quite linear. I flew a 7' rokkaku and used my Brooxes BBKK rig with a Canon A650IS camera.

The video is uncut and not stabilized. This means every time I let out or took in line, the rig shook, tilted, rattled, and rolled. The stable bits are when the line wasn't changing length.

Some things to notice:

- When the camera aims toward the line, it tilts down slightly. When it aims away, it tilts up. When it points 90 degrees to the line the horizon is tilted. This is because the rig is being blown by the wind, and is being made to tilt.

- Even when the line isn't being monkeyed with, the camera still shakes. Except for image stabilization inside the camera itself, this is not a stabilized rig. No gyros, no PID loop, no nothing.

- I pan too fast. This rig is really set up for still photography, so the pan speed is a compromise between a fast enough rate to make it easy to use and a slow enough rate to let me fine-tune my pointing. For video I'd need to slow down that axis quite a bit.

- Tilting is jerky. Again, this rig is set up for still photography. I tilt using a rotary knob on my transmitter. Where it points is where the camera points. A slower servo on this axis would help.

- Standing on a beach, or even on a rock wall is NOT where you want to be during a tsunami. And let's face it, by the time the tsunami reached Hawaii, it was small.
