we know we should pay the profs more but comparing with US salaries is not relative...they get paid more coz they pay more taxes, have much more expensive healthcare, cost of living even a top executive would not make as much as a prof there...coz of the relative costs of living are so wide between india and US....but yes we need to pay them more according to INDIAN industry standards in the private education sector..

IIT is no where close to an Ivy League... the students make up the IIT talent.. in terms of professors, at best 15-30% of them are good.. the rest is acceptable..

Ministers should not have such executive powers over a person,s salary. A teachers board should also be involved in this. After all these teachers cannot earn like these ministers through huge bribes. They do a far more honest job than politicians do. Chetan is right.

IIT proffessors has higher pay scale than UGC proffesors...
If IIT proffesors wants money let them make it thru talent...govt..does not stop IIT professors frm starting venture...
Govt does not mioro manage IIT's....as govt don't prescribed syllabus, conduct exams or run classses for IIT..
Mind u IIT is a govt...subusidied eduaction..if u want to do engineering at MIT or any foreign university.. u will know the fees difference..

My dad works in IIT madras... I truly agree with chetan .. Thye need a better pay .. Come on! IIT is as good as any UNIV in the IVY league..These profs should be given better salaries

the salary structure needs to be reformed.........you can use that argument.....
"rarely faculty members will migrate to western world for better pay as survival here is not as easy as in IITs.".......to pend compensational reforms till eternity....the process needs to be initiated
