The Library Theatre Manchester (UK) closed, after 58 years at Central Library, on 4 July 2010, and marks the end of an era for Manchester theatre. Most of this unofficial amateur video was shot in the last week of performance at the Central Library Theatre (with some Central Library footage from Feb/ March). The soundtrack is a segued collection of familiar radio themes from the 1950s and 60s. The final play was the same one which opened the theatre in 1952, "The Importance Of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde.
Central Library will now be closed for four years of renovation, refurbishment and modernisation, but the current theatre will be converted and rebuilt for book storage. However the Library Theatre Company lives on, and will be presenting plays at the Lowry Salford Quays, and other Manchester venues over the next four years, before moving to a new permanent home at the old Theatre Royal, near Central Library.

Wow this a great. We also have an official video coming your way soon about the making of the final production and last night of Earnest and an official video tour of the costome and design exhibition, guided by our designer Judith. We'll pop them online as soon as Greg has finished editing them!
