Most people have probably not heard of Irving Thalberg unless they watched the annual Academy Awards and wondered why the person every year who was singled out for lifetime achievement was given the "Irving Thalberg Award". But Thalberg was to Mayer what Louis Howe was to FDR. Just as Howe served as FDR's chief political advisor - paving the way for Roosevelt to rise to the Presidency - so Thalberg created the environment for Mayer to build MGM into the dominant movie studio of its time. Playwright David Wiener is the author of this fabulous play, starring Wayne Erreca as Louis B. Mayer and Jim Steinberg as Irving Thalberg. Performed at the Manhattan Playhouse. Directed by Wayne Erreca.
Such a shame in those days they didnt perform surgical proccedures that they do in an instant nowadays. I wonder if his children are still alive. I wonder if his grandkids know of their very special grandfather.
Seems like a great show they did here. Let me know if it goes to London.
Thanks.

Yes, Irving Thalberg was the original "Boy Wonder." He was a REAL genius in the true sense of the word. If it wasnt for him MGM would never have become the incredible studio it became and remained UNTIL the very late 40's. Him and L.B. were perfect together. The perfect creative force. He will always be sadly missed by the few people who know well the AMERICAN Cultural History.
