  • Thirdly, the cost of enforcing copyright must be considered. With todays technology, there is no way to enforce copyright without extensive surveillance of individuals. This is a violation of the right to privacy, which unlike copyright is a moral, human right, and part of the foundation of a fair democratic society.

    MAINTAIN HARDLINE KOPIMI.

  • This is a spectacular, unprecedented development of a great value to society. It is the idea behind public libraries (something that was also initially opposed by copyright holders) but a million times better. Copyright is standing in the way of this development.

  • First of all, the success of copyright in its very reason for existing, promoting creativity, is questionable. Lawrence Lessig makes a good case for this. google him.

Secondly, we now have technology that can give everyone a free and unlimited access to any culture and information they want.

  • Although it is what we have grown to expect over the previous century, it is not at all obvious that creators of intellectual property should have the right to dictate how their works are used and distributed.

Copyright exists because, as a society, we benefit from the existence of an economical incentive for creativity. As a practical right, rather then a moral, human right, the positive aspects of copyright must be weighed against its negative aspects.

  • I have to say, though, buying illegal dvds is pretty stupid. If you're going to pay for something, just go buy it at the store. Otherwise, just stream it.
