Bicycling the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath, which is a National Historic Park, is the high-light of my tour on the eastern coast. The trail is hard-pack dirt and gravel that horses and mules pulled barges carrying cargo from Cumberland Maryland to Washington DC. Most of the locks used to raise and lower the barges are still in place. There are hiker/bikers campsites placed about every 10 miles. The trail passes thru small towns about every 25 -30 miles. http://www.nps.gov/choh/index.htm

  • Where did you get on the towpath at? If you were on the towpath between Great Falls and Whites Ferry you would not have been so impressed. Also I noticed that you were praising the iron mountain campsite, But if you camped there you would hate the trains that go through there so early in the morning. Good luck

  • @figaro0127 I got on the C&O at Harper's Ferry..... believe me, I hated the trains. I wore ear plugs at night....lol

  • I ended up on a road in Big Cypress Swamp that looked like that. Keep up the good work, Dave.

  • @viall4diabetes thanks John... I'll see you on the road, somewhere on the Northern Tier!

  • Very nice nature observations. Thumbs up!

  • @actionadventures hey thanks actionadventures.... I'm really enjoying your videos too! thanks

  • The Video Is Good quality can you please let em know what is the make and model of your camera? Thank you.

  • I got flooded of the C and O canal in May. But I knew which way to walk and did not have to swim or lose my gear. I was hiking to the Appalachian Trail and I guess I was to slow. Camped at Mcmahones? campground on the detour, cost 20 and let the river go down. Then I roadwalked to Antitam group campground the next day. Cost $10 to camp at Antitam campground.

  • Awesome trip

  • @Amnas2011 The river is the Potomac River and it is very high after the recent rain storm. I was glad to see the rain stop because I was afraid to camp right on the bank of the river! Thank you very much Annas2011
