Sigiriya (Lion's rock) සීගිරිය சிகிரியா - is an ancient rock fortress and palace ruin.Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (frescos) which are reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves in India.The complex was built by King Kashyapa (AD 477 -- 495), and after the king's death, it was used as a Buddhist monastery until 14th century.
Polonnaruwa පොළොන්නරුව பொலனாறு - The 2nd ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I in 1070 AD.
It was the golden era of Sri Lankan history.
Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa are World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka.
[PL]Sigiriya (Skała Lwa) to starożytna skalna forteca i ruiny pałacu. Jest również znana ze starożytnych fresków wzorowanych na jaskiniach Ajanta w Indiach.
Kompleks został zbudowany przez króla Kashyapa (AD 477 - 495), a po jego śmierci był używany przez klasztor buddyjski do XIV w.
Polonnaruwa - stolica drugiego królestwa Sri Lanka od 1070 r. ustanowiona prez króla Vijayabahu I. Był to złoty okres w historii Sri Lanki.
Oba miasta są zabytkami światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.
