On July 16, 2009, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic and Protestant leaders met to demand change at Tamms. They were joined by Billy Ocasio, Senior Advisor to Governor Quinn; Timothy McLean, Chief, Office of Intergovernmental Relations, Illinois Department of Corrections; Vance Henry, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Mayor's Office for Community and Faith-Based Initiatives; former Tamms inmates, family members, and concerned citizens.

Prayer vigils also took place in Urbana, Decatur, Quincy, Plainfield, Carbondale, and Springfield. Prisoners at Tamms supermax held a day of prayer in their cells.

The Day of Prayer for a New Direction at Tamms Supermax was organized by Tamms Year Ten.

  • hug a thugs. go work in a prison. deal with these crazies and pathetic people every day. TAMMS is the worst of the worst. why? because they assault staff and others alot and very bad. this state gives people and inmates plenty of chances and resources to help yourself. and if you cant- then piss on you. its not tormenting. imagine what that other inmate or staff thats been almost killed is thinking. screw these people. HUG. A. THUG. prisoners rights? hahaha. how about the dead guys?
