I used to go out with a guy who worked with them, and I went on the road a lot. I can say, of all the bands at that time, I never knew of any who could put out records where 99% of the songs were really GREAT. It was like one hit after another, going to a show, or listening to a record. You should have SEEN THEM when they were live in Central Park, or Shea Stadium with The Who! It was MAGIC! There is NO MUSIC NOW that COMES CLOSE to the innovation and enthusiasm of ANY bands back then.

It's difficult to label the Clash. They played all styles yet they were still the Clash. One of a few instances where all members were actually really great! These guys were awesome musicians. When Strummer passed away, that was my Kennedy/Lennon moment. I was numb. Miss you Joe

@Indio156 Shea stadium, Central Park...that must have been intimate. I think you're wrong. There are more bands than ever these days that produce great music. And there is no need for big labels to be heard anymore. Branch out a bit further than your FCC regulated radio station or best buy cd selection. Not taking anything away from the Clash, but you just sound out-of-touch saying that no music is as innovative or enthusiastic. Get with the times hippy! lol
