The origins of the "hoedown" you describe are in Celtic music, found all over Europe. American bluegrass is simply one of the more recent developments.

ha ha, good question Buller... the Celtic influence would have travelled south with the Acadians to eventually become what you call A/R .... I see you have McNabb's copy as a fave, so you obviously like it too. :)♫♪♫♪
