The Resurrection of the Lord, Easter Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels featuring the Cathedral Choir and organist Samuel Soria playing Processional Hymn: Jesus Christ Is Risen Today. (Pardon the shakiness)

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains which He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation have procured; Alleluia!
Now above the sky He's king, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!
Praise eternal as His love; Alleluia!
Praise him, all you heavenly host, Alleluia!
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia!

  • The organist should have pulled out more stops than that for this hymn. My organist uses full during the intro, she does that because it gets people interested in singing.

  • I went to the Latin Mass in nearby Alhambra on this Easter Sunday insted.

  • Well I like this. One of my favourite hymns. Thank you for posting.

  • Not bad, but so boring ! No ENERGY ! Even a few "anticipated" beats would have got the congregation to WAKE UP. You can MAKE them sing if you know how.

Descant wasn't bad, but could have been a LOT more creative.

  • What a shame that none of the people in the video chose to lift their voices in praise to the risen Christ, instead choosing to be spectators observing the procession. Worship is participatory, not a spectator event.

  • This is similar 2 way its played at my church-St Joesphs Cathedral in Hartford CT. However we are so very blessed to have the Hartford Symphony Orchestra perform at both Easter and Christmas! Brings me to tears every time!

  • I agree with dwarren...let the Dobson rip here...it's Easter for cryin' out loud!...lol...I lay on it full organ when I play this hymn on Easter!

  • @dwarrren9 - I do sorta agree with you. However, its sounds as if there's a brass section, etc there...maybe the organist didn't want to drown out the instrumentalists and the choir??? Depending on the set-up and accoustics, he may have had to do that on purpose. Or, just for the sake of respecting the other musicians. Overall, thisd is a very nice even combined sound.

  • I almost went to this Mass! You shouldve told me!
