I had my first aspiration done yesterday.. I'm so glad I didn't see this before then!! Was interesting to see why it hurt so bloody much & why I'm so achy today! Thanks for sharing, hope all is well

@OrbitalDefense The anesthesia burns, the insertion of the needle into the bone feels like a lot of pressure and can have a twinge to it. The withdrawal of the marrow into the syringe hurts. It is short, and the length of the pain vs. the intensity makes it easily bearable. Also, many doctors will give some oral meds to help relax the patient and decrease pain during the procedure. (personal experience)

@aflgirl100 No there aren't a lot of clinical trials for leukemia. Leukemia is well known b/c of the early work done to treat childhood leukemia. But leukemia is a relatively rare disease. It's likely to grow as the American "baby boom" generation hits their 60s and 70s, which is when leukemia is most likely to strike. For a good history of leukemia see the book "The Emperor of All Maladies" by Siddhartha Mukherjee. It's an outstanding history of cancer w/a lot of info about leukemia.

@csmcd is there a lot of clinical trials out there? (Sorry about all the questions but it is helping me with my assignment
I keep hearing people including nursing students say a lot about how it'll hurt. It doesn't look so bad, is TV just misrepresenting a lot of this?
