This solution didn't work for me. But after much trial and error, what DID work was to replace the dv tape with a new one. A DV tape that has been used for SD recording and then re-cycled to record HD will result in the problems outlined above. A tape that has only been used to record HD works fine.

Thank you sir soooooo much. I had my Canon HV30 for almost 3 years and couldn't figure out how to capture my vids in HD. Everytime I hooked it up to my firewire to capture on WIndows Movie Maker, it would only capture my vids in SD. But after watching this, I tried out Sony Vegas trial on my pc and the program works beautifully. Thank you so much for showing me Sony Vegas. I can now watch my recorded videos in full 1080p. You truly are a great man.

@Kuribohchaos8 Previewing real time video is CPU intensive. If your computer is not powerful enough or doesn't have enough memory, it might not be able to keep audio and video in sync in the preview. You can try reducing your preview window settings to 'preview, auto', which gives a lower quality preview, but often resolves the sync issue.

I have a question. Why is it that when im preview or recording, the audio is about 1sec late and is not in sync with the video, but after the video is outputed as an .avi, its perfectly fine. Is there any way to fix the audio during previewing so it can sync up with the video? Also is there a way to change the outputed file type?
hey, i have a Sony CCD-TRV608, and I want to know how to capture the video in HD or something better to the resolution of 320x240 that is what marks me in Sony Vegas, you might say to me please how I can do it? thnx.
I use the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10

@ZyckVoy The Sony TRV608 is a analog video camera, which doesn't shoot HD. There's no way to capture HD video from this camera. The low resolution 320X240 is due to the USB capture mode. If you want better video and better capture, you'll have to get a better video camera. The TRV608 was great when it came out in 2002, but things have changed since then.

Just for clarification, anybody...this capturing applies to both already recorded video that is playing back in play mode, PLUS capturing while recording live? ty!

@nowaydudebook Yes, you can capture pre-recorded or live video. But for live video, the capture must be via the firewire port on the camera.

why doesnt my sony vegas have the video tab?
MrGojira95 1 year ago
@MrGojira95 There isn't a video tab in Sony Vegas. But there is a videoFX tab for video effects.
To see how to find missing tabs, view my YouTube video 'Fix screen layout problems in Sony Vegas & Movie Studio '
