Sounds like you might just need to use premium fuel. Nissan engines ping on regular.

WOW, sounds just like my 02 Maxima, turns out the Timing chain tensioner went bad, this in turn caused the Timing chain guides to fail. The chain itself never broke. i bought the tensioner today from Nissan, the cost was 75.00. I also bought the haynes manual. The whole job is definately a saturday/sunday job, but can be done. The dealer was quoting me just over 1100 parts and labor.
