Dozens of police officers in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded a residential neighborhood after two enraged chimpanzees broke free of their owner's cage and rampaged through the streets.
One of the apes was gunned down by a police officer after it climbed on top of a squad car and pounded on the roof.
The animal was trying to run into a crowded neighborhood with children playing outside and Las Vegas Metro police said the officer had no choice but to open fire and kill it.
The other chimp was tranquilized and carted off, unconscious, by animal control officials.
