The Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad is the only other railroad in the Green Bay area besides the big Noodle, and operates an eclectic bunch of old locomotives including several ex-Reserve Mining (RMSX) EMD SD9s which still retain their high front hoods.

Here we chase ELS 1224 as it pulls a single BNSF hi-cube boxcar to Green Bay.

Scene 1: Main St. crossing, Abrams, WI.

Scene 2: County Highway S crossing, Sobieski, WI.

Scene 3: Brown Rd. crossing, north of Suamico, WI.

Scene 4: Lineville Rd. (County Highway M) crossing in Howard, WI. This is where it takes the connector to access the CN Marinette Sub to get into North Green Bay Yard.

Scene 5: Lakeview Dr. crossing on the CN Marinette Sub, Howard, WI. I was all set up for a cool coming-around-the-bend shot, but forgot about the crossing gate.

Note: YouTuber JeremiahTrane has a LOT of ELS videos too.

  • Where does the route of the ELS go?

    PLEASE RESPOND.

  • Green Bay to Channing, MI with branches from there to various places in the UP of Michigan.

  • Some of those spots look like they should be FRA Excepted track. No locomotive should lean THAT much on any piece of track.

  • I think that stretch is, which is why they slow down so much. Most of the line is FRA Class 2 IIRC.

  • had me worried when he started leaning too the left must be some old track

  • Yeah, I think the track is bad there and the engine's suspension probably ain't what it used to be either.

  • If you worked any job, and they told you to do something, would you refuse? Railroading is like any other job. Just because the quantity is little doesn't mean it isn't worth doing. A lot of idiot yardmasters and trainmasters would defer moving a single car because it didn't seem justified. You get enough idiots like that and you get companies that go bankrupt or shutdown. You still pay car hire-per diem on single cars. That single box could cost a whole lot of boxes to sit on it. Mty or loaded.

  • cool
