you saved me from the awkward silences at my families Christmas this year.. most are still wondering why they sent me money to go to college to learn how to play theory at a school of arts. lol. cheers, and happy holidays!
For right now just play the down down strum. That is okay. It will get you at least playing the song. Then when you get better then you can do the up strum. you can improvise and do your own up down strumming. As far as the chord that is where you have to hit the pause sketch the chord down and how she holds it which is called the shape of the chord. When you memorize the shapes of each chord then you will recognize what chord she is playing. Just take it slow. There is no rush.Have fun learning
@itsmonti1 All good advice, and what I've been trying -- but I have a really hard time following her strumming pattern, and she doesn't always say what chord she's playing.
@SillinessinLibrary What I would recommend is to what the video over and over again. Use the Pause button so you can write notes of a pad of paper. When she mentioned a chord, pause the video and draw or sketch how she hold the chord on the fret board. Which fingers she uses. Then try to copy her. Then play the video again and follow her over again. Go slow at first but you will get it. Then when Christmas is here you can play it in front of your family and friends. Have fun and good luck.
Um... I get a little lost. It would be really great if you could list the chords/strumming pattern so that I could follow along while I watch you play. I can never tell what chord your playing, and I have no idea what the strumming pattern is. I have faith in Mahalo's teaching, but I could do with a bit of extra help ^_^
