Referred as the Kingdom of Bisnaga by the Portuguese, Vijayanagara was a South Indian empire based in the Deccan Plateau. Established in 1336 by Harihara I and his brother Bukka Raya I, it lasted until 1646 although its power declined after a major military defeat in 1565 by the Deccan sultanates. The empire is named after its capital city of Vijayanagara, whose impressive ruins surround modern Hampi, now a World Heritage Site in modern Karnataka, India. The writings of medieval European travelers such asDomingo Paes, and the literature in local vernaculars provide crucial information about its history. Archaeological excavations at Vijayanagara have revealed the empire's power and wealth.

He gave importance to Telugu because more than half of his empire was under Telugu speaking people and his army mainly contained Telugu commanders. The amount of respect he is getting from Telugu people is great, that he is their clan.

They came to power after the Saluva Dynasty.Krishnadevaraya ascended the throne in 1509.He ruled for 20 years ."Tulu was his mother tongue" but gave equal preferance to both kannada and telugu language equally. The imperial court had representatives of Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil poets, who contributed largely to their respective literatures.Though he was a Kannadiga he respected all languages.

The Tuluva were the third Hindu dynasty which ruled Vijayanagara empire. The dynasty was founded by chieftain Bunts who originally ruled southern parts of coastal Karnataka, also called Tulu Nadu. The dynasty gained the name "Tuluva" because they belonged to the Tulu speaking region of Tulu Nadu and their mother tongue was the ancient Tulu language which still survives and is the lingua franca of coastal Karnataka and northern parts of Kerala.

U fool ashakirana sri krishna devaraya belongs to andhrapradesh only.....he wrote so many telugu poems and even said that his mother tongue was telugu....."TELUGU DHELAYANNU DESAMBHU TELUGU YENU..." his dynasty's name's tulu, but that is just a name, he completely belongs to andhra..his family completely related to andhra region...tulu dynasty doesn't mean that they were of karnataka, the name came because the founder of tulu dynasty was brought up by a tulu family, but the blood is telugu blood.
