Today is the birthday of S.S. Stewart (1855) - in his honor some banjo music in the classic style. I continue to be amazed by the quantity and variety of music available for the five string banjo! Stewart Orchestra banjo, c. 1893, Nylgut strings.

  • I love the inocence of this period's tunes and broad melodic runs and changes . Lots of work showing here.. Great to hear you as always .. All the best from Connecticut . Guy

  • @guywolff Hello Guy. The other thing that strikes me as I work through a few pieces by Morley is the harmony. Not so much here, but in some other works I find chords and progressions I previously had not associated with banjo music. Stay tuned.

Thanks all for the kind comments.

  • Great music! I am also a fan of the Celtic side of banjo playing and spent probably too much time on my banjola picking away at the more gentle tunes. They make a welcome break from the hectic bluegrass songs, I must say! Keep up the good work! Mike

  • Usually not a fan of "jigs"... but found this piece surpisingly enjoyable and wonderfully played.
