"Doctor Who" star Matt Smith's appearance on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, during which he announced that this year's "Doctor Who" Christmas Special would air on Christmas Day (December 25) here in the U.S. on BBC America.

The air date for "Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol" was big news in and of itself, given that American fans generally have to wait several weeks to a month after the special airs on BBC to see it here, but that wasn't the only great moment in "Doctor Who" geekery to transpire during the show. Ferguson also flaunted his "Doctor Who" fandom by orchestrating an elaborate music-and-dance intro to the show, set to the "Doctor Who" theme and featuring a cameo by The Doctor himself.

Sadly, the intro was axed at the last minute due to rights issues, and Ferguson subsequently called on fans to start a public campaign to get the clip online by any means necessary. The campaign took shape on Twitter via the #leaktheclip hashtag, and now just a few weeks later, the intro has indeed found its way to the Internet.

So, presented here for your viewing pleasure, is the amazing "Doctor Who" cold opening to the November 16 episode of The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson. It is truly a thing of beauty.

  • I wish the lyrics could be found somewhere.

  • Who is this guy

  • that is about they gayest thing I have ever seen

  • @ElectraAlan There's always been some sexual tension between the Doctor and his various companions. Sometimes extremely subtle at other times more obviously (#10 and Rose Tyler). But never any real hoochie-coochie. That would be just be very wrong.

  • Everyone watch out for this guy, he's a real bad ass.

  • Triumph of intellect and romance? When has the Doctor ever been romantic with anyone, apart from that hatchet job we Americans did? Of course, William Hartnell started out with a granddaughter, so he must've gotten busy at some time or other.

    "No sex, please. We're British."

  • @MandaMeena you're stupid

  • @Mary06067 He wears a V-neck because V-necks are cool.

Actually, I first saw this before I'd ever seen a single episode of Dr Who. I watched all of Eccleston's episodes, then all of Tennant's, and then thought Ugh, here comes that awkward girl in the low-cut T-shirt. His "Legs! I have legs! And hair! And a nose! And--Geronimo!" coming hard after the Tenth Doctor's emotional final scenes reinforced my sense of him as an unworthy goofball. He's won me over since then, of course.

  • @MandaMeena not a dress, just a v-neck black t-shirt. He does seem to love the v-necks. He has quite a few judging from other appearances. Still, v-necks aside, I love the Doctor!

  • @Jez32uk That's a running gag on Craig's show. That has nothing to do with Doctor Who
