***UPDATE 1/26/09 - Diagnosed as Benign Myoclonus of Infancy by Ped. Neurologist after 3 EEGs (2 of which she had episodes, MRI and physical exam as well as review of her videos.)***

Norrah has been doing these strange movements that appear to be seizures since 4.5 months old. They happen sometimes randomly but most often after a sneeze, yawn, or startle. We have had two normal EEGs (20 min and 24 hour)one of which she did these movements during the EEG and all appeared normal. We call the episodes "Grizwalds" because no one knows what they are at this point. The episode starts about 13 seconds into the video. You can see that she is still aware and even gets scared (her arms fly up in the morro reflex.) She does not usually extend her arms. Instead most of the time she remains in the same position she was in when the episode began and then just carries on as if nothing happened. This was a big one, probably the biggest we have seen. If you have any insight please fill us in. To learn more about Norrah check out knowingnorrah.blogspot.com

  • This definately looks like seizure activity to me. Were her EEG's with a Pediatric Neurologist/Epileptologist? I will keep little Norrah in my prayers.

  • Yes, EEGs both with pediatric neurologist. Both normal even during an episode. Still clueless.

  • I dont know much about Sandifers syndrome but if you look at the videos of babies with this, it is identical. Apparantly it looks like seizures. I'd check it out.

  • Thanks. I did check one video out. (A baby named Zoe). That does look much like Norrah's episodes. I will keep this in mind.

  • I do not pretend to know all about neurology, but do believe in exhausting all possibilities before settling for an inaccurate diagnosis. Especially since our local Neurologist told us that Kenadi was experiencing heartburn. I do so hope that it is simply something that Norrah will outgrow. Do you keep a seizure diary? I will continue to remember this little one in my prayers.
