ROAD OF DREAMS

It was getting pretty bad I used to wake in the mornings feeling like an animal trapped in a cage, needed to find some money, somewhere to channel my rage. It was a warm July when I walked into town and I was glad of the rain when the rain came down, there on a poster in black and white it said:
" A WINNER'S PURSE FOR THOSE WHO WILL FIGHT "
Well I signed my name, I got a pair of gloves, but by the end of that night I'd pray they'd turn to doves, to carry me far away to hide her losing shame.

What else could I do but swallow my pride, you see I ran for cover found no place to hide, like a fool I've never known right from wrong and I've been counting all the winters since you've been gone. I was hoping my road of dreams lead back to you. I was hoping my road of dreams lead back to you.

Seems like so long ago that I hung up my cares along side that pretty dress hanging under my stairs and, its shade, once white, has faded and matches the colour of the moon. If I close my eyes there's a name I recall and it matches the face that hangs on my wall, on a photograph, in a rosewood frame but right here in the flesh only one remains.

What else could I do but swallow my pride, you see I ran for cover found no place to hide, like a fool I've never known right from wrong and I've been counting all the winters since you've been gone. I was hoping my road of dreams lead back to you. I was hoping my road of dreams lead back to you

Then in the dark a light came shining brighter than the phial of Galadriel.
And they both reached out to touch it, as if I could see what they were feeling,
as I gazed through the smoke trying to listen above the screams and drunken yells.

'Cause she had auburn hair and the dress she was wearing looked yellow below the lights; the shade of her stiletto heels would have given a circus clown delight.
She just smiled and I guess that she knew him, well that's how it seemed to me,
It was the way that she stroked the scars above his eyes ever so gently. For a moment he looked her up and down and then he turned to walk away, suddenly above the noise I swear I heard her say!

What else could I do but swallow my pride, you see I ran for cover found no place to hide, like a fool I've never known right from wrong and I've been counting all the winters since you've been gone. I was hoping my road of dreams lead back to you. I was hoping my road of dreams lead back to you.

He stopped in his tracks, turned around and held her in his embrace, they stole into the night through an open door and vanished.....without a trace.
