  • She was right about one thing... only snobs care about pedigrees.

  • @Rydiakumori I disagree - especially when you are talking about horses you plan on breeding. Pedigrees should be part of the overall process when selecting and matching up potential breeding stock to give the foals the best chance possible - especially in this economy. Now as to personal riding horses that aren't going to be used for breeding, well then papers don't mean much unless you want to show in breed-specific shows.

  • You nailed the idiot breeder mentality perfectly!

Hey, I think I got a couple of those rare lilac duns out in my barn. Course the registry snobs made me put bay on their papers cause they're racist against fancy colors....

  • clowns like this give reputable breeders with good stock a bad name.

  • aprocot dun is that like a aprocot poodle?

  • @Syncraftable never had to worry as myself no bad animals.

  • @7466309change And breeder, previous owners, access to breed shows, and any important genetic information.. For example, without papers, you won't know if a stock horse you're looking at has Impressive blood, and won't know whether or not you should worry about HYPP.

  • Pedagrees are not for snobs. But is over rated.Papers means you know the birth day and dam and sire and farm.

  • @Rydiakumori Only snobs might care about papers right now, but that's exactly why there's an over population of horses and why so many get sent to slaughter or are abandoned and/or neglected. People just breed anything to anything.

  • lilac dun cracked me up, since i actually had someone tell me their horse was an apricot dun.. LOLZ

  • @Boudicca2006 Show me a mustang, and I'll show you a superior horse.

  • @Rydiakumori -- and only idiots believe only snobs care about pedigrees. Talk about reverse snobbery. Pedigrees are an indicator of a horse's potential, as well as a genetic record. Note the "genetic record" phrase because it's important when BREEDING. Doesn't mean a grade horse is worthless, but that most people BREEDING grade horses are clueless.

  • Conformation, pedigree, disposition and proven. Those are my personal criteria for breeding. Good disposition is self explanatory. Good conformation, suited to the discipline you are aiming for, is vital. Pedigrees should also be suited for the discipline. There are many instances of unregistered horses who are bred but those horses generally have my #4 criteria going for them: they are proven. Proven can mean proven in anything, not just showing. Endurance, ranch work, etc.

  • @Rydiakumori Because your foal will inherit traits from is sire and dam and they will inherit their traits from their sire and dam..etc etc.. After the 3rd generation the blood gets to thin and no it doesnt matter. But it just helps
