i'm not sure how people can hate on this cover...i think it's pretty fantastic. and i've been a huge smith fan for a long long time. the way she smiles through it all...you just know, yaknow? :)

@CatticusMeowius I'm a huge HUUUUUGE elliot smith fan, but I think that most of his fans are just overly possessive assholes. god forbid someone should cover (aka "ruin") his songs.

@onlyinmydreams06 yeah, the cover is nice enough. It just doesn't move me. If you want to get technical it's because she doesn't put enough accents into particular words in the phrases. It's like she's reading it for the first time.

There's a lot of hate towards someone who's paying respect to a musician they admired. Considering that Emily Haines is an amazing musician herself, and that the cover was an awesome interpretation of the song?
Key word here: Interpretation. It's her version of the song (crazy concept, I know...). And if, even for a second, you think that you're even on the same level as her? Yeah, news flash: You're not.
In summary: Quit your whining and enjoy.

i simply don't understand people who don't like her singing it. she has a very gentle voice, she kept it simple and..isn't it just nice to listen to? that's all it matters right:)
