A young orphan, Mary, is sent to live with her Aunt Patience and Uncle Joss in Cromwell. They are the landlords of the Jamaica Inn, which Mary soon realizes is the home base of ship wrecking gang. Her realizes her life is in jeopardy.
Not very accurate. I recently saw an old clip of Du Maurier where she was asked about this film version and she replied saying it was not accurate to the book. I'd agree of course having read it a couple of times.
Thank you for placing this movie-it flies under the radar, and is a wonderful example of the inspiration of Charles Dickens. O'Hara was Laughton's protege, and he had a good sense of her talents! I have always liked Newton-this is the young brilliant man before drink did for him.

Pirates were a useful way to show a bit of male flesh in those days lol. Robert Newton a romantic hero- who knew!
