Jeff Beck - Skinthieves

I used to work in a bar in my local town back in the mid 90's and they had a CD there called 'Moodfood' by Moodswings and I used to put it on a lot. It was mostly chill-out stuff but there was a track on it called 'Skinthieves' that always caught my ear as it had this intense guitar solo over the top of it. Just the other week there I remembered the album for some reason and tracked it down. I also discovered that the guitar on 'Skinthieves' was played by none other than Jeff Beck!

Anyway, the first part of the track is guitar free so I did a 'cut and paste' job in Logic and knocked up a backing track so I could have a shot at wailing over it!

Here's the result, guitar parts here are a mix of licks Jeff used in the original and my own improv.

Hey Nick. Love your videos. I am in the process of gathering specs to have a masterbuilt strat done by Jason Smith for me. I was thinking of a similar setup (HSS, Floyd). What picks do you have on yours? Any advice recommended when dealing with MB instruments? Thanks!

Forgot to mention: a key thing for me is to not have tons of noise, which unfortunately is the case with my current CS strat. Any advice on that as well? Thanks

@cheopsnet I don't find the pickups, or the guitar in genera,l particularly noisy. Of course the single coils have a bit of hum but nothing major.

@cheopsnet Hi there, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help! I have the spec sheet from the original order for my guitar. It was commissioned by SoundsGreat music in Manchester which is where I bought it. The pickup bit in the order simply says 'JC' pickups which is annoyingly vague. I assume they are John Cruz custom pickups. I keep meaning to e-mail Fender to see if they have more details about the order but haven't yet. This MB guitar is my only experience of Fender CS guitars.
