  • so what we are looking at is a touch sensitive neck anyway could you help me out could turn a cheap keyboard into a midi keyboard? for fl studio?

  • @SearchInSun Not exactly. There's an infrared range sensor that is used to detect the hand position along the neck.

I have no idea how to go about converting a cheap non-midi keyboard into a midi one. Perhaps it could be hacked if you knew what was going on under the hood - have you tried a google search?

  • is it possible to play open notes?

  • As in, notes with no hand on the fretboard? Sure.

  • Interesting - can you post a video that demos playing melodic lines or chords?

  • Well, chords aren't possible with this version, since it can only play one note at a time. I'm working on a new version that can, though!

Melodic lines it can do, but I am not so skilled yet. I'm practicing though. ;)

  • It's definitely not for the faint of heart, that's for sure. But, if you have experience making PCBs and working with electronics you're well on your way.

  • fantastic work man! I read the instructable and I'm going to have to study it throroughly before I attempt this but it looks like a pretty amazing piece of technology.

  • It cost about $250, not including the guitar itself (that was donated for free). It took about a month (maybe more) but that includes development time and refinishing the guitar, which you may not have to do.

Whether you can do it... well, I suppose that depends on whether you have any experience with electronics and shop tools, and whether you have access to those tools.

I've written an instructable on the entire process. It will give you a good idea of what's involved.

  • hey man i am in desperate need of some help. i am only 16, and im not so sure i can build this. But i think it would be incredible for my band, so i have some questions. "how much did it cost all together", "how long did it take", and "do you think i can do it". please please msg, comment, whaterver give me feedback thanks.( :
