JASON NEWSTED & ECHOBRAIN on Robbs MetalWorks

Here's another little treasure from the 'Robbs MetalWorks Archival Series'. I've actually wanted to release this interview for a long time, as I'm a metal fan born out of the METALLICA generation & thus, a big fan of former bassist, Jason Newsted, not only because of his musical contributions, but because of the person he is & what he stands for. When Jason left Metallica, I never commented about it publicly, but I always felt he did the right thing (for himself). To leave the biggest band in the world, so that you can be true to yourself musically says something about Jason's convictions and integrity as a person. Mad respect for that always! The 1st band he joined after his departure was ECHOBRAIN; so in this interview, which was conducted at the Steamboat in Austin on May 31, 2002, you'll hear the band talk about their beginnings, who they are musically & about the new found freedom Jason was enjoying at that time. There are so many things I remember about that day which were interesting & cool. First, Jason, walks into the room his arms full of miscellaneous items, but we all noticed he also had this HUGE half smoked blunt joint in his fingers - just walkin around with it like nothing ;) ALSO, he took a jab or two at his old band, by not remembering the title of the Metallica song, 'Wherever I May Roam' (from the Black album) - when were talking about videos. I stood there & could not believe it. (I did edit this scene out from this Youtube version) But overall, I remember how nice & down to earth Jason was. He was very cool & respectful to me & my Crew, even when he autographed all our shit. So, I'm glad to finally release this to the fans. Trust you'll see Mr. Newsted again, as I plan to release my VOIVOD interview sometime in the near future.

These 2 guys with Jason were like a decade younger than him and WOW was Jason better than this. In retrospect, I'm sure he completely regrets leaving THE MOST SUCCESSFUL BAND OF ALL TIME. What's become of Jason in the last 10 years, other than being a session drummer for big named bands?
