You can put lipstick on a bigot, but its still a bigot, and if McDonnell doesnt put his money where his mouth is with an executive order, his true intentions become clearer. Ladies and gentlemen, confront this homophobia, and here is what you should do:

Respectfully contact Virginina Governor Robert McDonnel by going to governor.virginia.gov or calling (804) 786-2211.

Respectfully contact Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II by going to oag.state.va.us or calling (804) 786-2071.

Respectfully support the College of William & Marys policy of banning discrimination against gay people by contacting them at web.wm.edu/contact/contact.php

Respectfully urge defense contractor Northrop Grumman to reject Virginia as the location for its new national headquarters. To contact them, click on the link in the description box to this video

Continue to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act that would protect LGBT people from discrimination everywhere in the country. To find your Reprsentative, go to writerep.house.gov. To find your Senator, go to www.senate.gov and select your state at the top right corner of the website.

Nor would it work. Remember, it was (former) Senator Sam Nunn (*D*-GA) who led the fight when Clinton wanted to overturn the ban on gays in the military, and that's how we wound up with DADT.

was a violation of the US Constitution. Therefore the Governor declared (albeit unintentionally I'm sure) that Virginia's Constitutional ban on gay marriage is in violation of the US Constitution. A lawsuit to overturn that amendment to Va.'s Constitution should be filed immediately, based on the Gov.'s directive. That would be supremely ironic.

The fact of the matter is that these executive orders have no force in law, they are symbolic. Former Gov Kaine issued EO #1 when he came into office and it included sexual orientation but it was worthless when cited by a man who was fired from a state museum because he was gay. The ironic thing is that McDonnell, after this Cucinnelli uproar, issued an exucutive directive which included sexual orientation and in it stated that any law that descriminated against a person an the basis of s.o.
