Marilyn adds some flawless harmonies to Gordon Lightfoot's If You Could Read My Mind on Solid Gold in the mid-80's. Enjoy...! Arranged and produced by musical director, Michael Miller.
Um...okay, yeah. I would not in a million years have put these two together, but that's my limited imagination (or snobbery), nothing to do with either of them. Lightfoot was by then a national treasure (or well on his way) and McCoo--God, I'd forgotten what gorgeous harmonies she could make. That sultry womanly warmth--listen to her solos on "If I Could Reach You" or "Love's Lines Angles and Rhymes." Yeah-- she could duet with Gordon Lightfoot. She could duet with God.
@notbatman1000 I'd have to respectfully disagree with her being around way before Lightfoot. Gord had penned several hits before she had her first. However, I really enjoyed this collaboration!
I know there are " purists" who don't like this duet--I strongly beg to differ! for one thing, this is an exquisitely difficult song to sing. And, the harmonies are perfect--note perfect. Marilyn was so good, she could sing well with anyone--& yes, it's also clear, Gordo was taken by her--well, who wasn't ? She was gorgeous, classy, smart, & what a voice. This, & her duet with The Late-Great Carl Wilson, are the best, ever, on Solid Gold. Wolfsky9
@reymatt76 You one-sided mouthpiece. You flap your gums about something as if you have the final say? I used those names because I felt you were too stupid to understand the simple humour in my comment and obviously needed it explained. You're as boring as they come. You don't even have the ability to articulate a good debate. You want the conversation to stop? Learn something about reading comprehension, don't pick arguments with those who can argue back, and finally, simply shut the fuck up.
@tyme4mike PeeWee Herman and even Richard Simmons are so famous that you felt comfortable enough mentioning their names to me because you KNEW I'd know who they were. What makes you think someone with the ability to become that famous can't be a good writer? Tha'ts why it was a poor choice. It's just a duet dude, really not worth getting angry over. If you want to believe he was so much better than she, then I'll agree with you I am a fan of both. Now please dont' write back. Thanks!
@reymatt76 Think of the foolishness suggested that PeeWee could even be a songwriter for Bob Dylan. I picked him because I couldn't think of a more ridiculous choice at that moment. Ok, make it Richard Simmons then. PeeWee and Richard could not more be songwriters for the great Bob Dylan than Marilyn McCoo could carry Gordon Lightfoot in musical ability. In fact, she couldn't carry his pissbucket to an outdoor toilet. There's another comment that will likely confuse you. Have fun with it. :)
