This is a short video of my 1970 Triumph 2000 (a Mark 2 "Innsbruck" saloon) starting up, with a few good revs for added measure.

The engine is a 2 litre (1998cc, 121ci) straight six, with twin Stromberg carburettors and 2 valves per cylinder. From the factory the engine would have made 90BHP and 117ft.lb, revving willingly all the way to 6500RPM and above (if you're brave enough). It's certainly more refined than rapid.

It's a very smooth engine, as most straight sixes tend to be - and has quite a nice crisp exhaust note - but it's definitely not loud (or fast) enough, yet!

  • This car you have here is fantastic. May I ask what exhaust system you have?

  • @yak52aholic Thanks! The only thing that was changed was that the car had a Chris Witor sports stainless rear tailpipe fitted - the rest of the exhaust was standard. You can find him by googling him. He does other Triumph tuning and service bits too!

  • @squarielman That shade is called Sienna :-) It's a lovely looking colour, it does require polishing often to keep it looking its best, though!

  • @LashoutUK Thanks man! Your channel has some great cars. :)

  • I had a Triumph 2000 as a teenager and I truly regret ever selling it.We drove the hell out of the car and you couldn't kill it.I spent $700 getting the head machined and valves reseated and couldn't afford registration after that cause I was only 19 at the time.I wish I kept it cause it ran like a dream. My dream would be to get a Triumph 2000 and a Jensen Interceptor to restore.I wonder if the British will ever make cars again, the way they used to?

  • Hi, Nice motor, Am hopefully investing a 2000 very soon, What shade of brown is it ? looks very nice...

  • @AlexSpooner2 ....Plus it would be a bit of a travesty to have such a nice car not being out enjoyed and driven, thinking about it......

  • @AlexSpooner2 No, not at all - I actually love driving it and it makes a great daily. The only reason is that my P6 is now almost back on the road (just needs new pads fitting for the MOT now) after being rescued from the scrappers and off the road for a year, and I have a lot invested in it - so unfortunately I have to focus on it (as it needs a fair bit of further work) and I can't just let the Triumph sit there (or afford to) and fall into disuse :-)

I will definitely have another though!

Nice to know I have inspired you! Good to see you have gone for the right colour as well! Although I see this car is now on ebay again. Looks ratherly nice, I had a good look at all those hi-res photos, seems in very good nick. Why are you selling it may I ask? Not a case of never meet your heros I hope? haha

  • @AlexSpooner2 Thanks Alex! Have to say, your driving vids in the 2000 were partially responsible for me getting this - just had to try one! Cheers! :D
