Now if you have democracy, it can also turn out in different ways. There is a danger for a country to go from highly capitalism to highly socialism and then to almost communism and then chao and bankrupcy of a country. IE, US -> Europe -> Argentina. That is determined by the quality of people. If you have nonproductive people, it won't work no matter what system you have.

At any place, the rich will always want to obtain political power. Democracy is a way to force the rich to buy the vote of poor people and hence a balance of power. Without it, the rich will become richer and more powerfully and you have something like the mdidle east.
