On Wednesday, June 22nd, Israel held the largest war exercise in its
history. The Real News' Lia Tarachansky interviewed Rela Mazali, the
founder of New Profile, an organization working to demilitarize Israeli
society, and Alex Cohn, a war resister who served five months for
objecting to serve in the army. Cohn analyses a children's show that
portrays a typical interaction between soldiers and Israeli children as part
of a discussion on the insidious prevalence of militarism in Israeli society.

Since 2000, Palestinian rockets have claimed the lives of 22 Israelis. Israel massacred 1400 people in Gaza, the majority of them being civilians, during Operation Cast Lead which lasted for 3 weeks. People shouldn't parrot the word terrorist because the media they're exposed to calls certain people terrorists. People should make up their own minds about who the real terrorists are

So Israeli society is bi-stratum: those who have, or could have, killed in service to the Nation, and those who, if ever they kill, will not have done so in service, and more than likely shall, for it be a small country, be forced to make reparations should they so do. Unless they're very clever.

I'm not going to argue about whether other Arab countries don't want Gazan refugees because I don't know their way of thinking. The creation of a Jewish state by the UN was a bad move which resulted in the hostility. I feel that it would have been much better if people of the three main religions in the region lived peacefully side by side in Palestine. Consequences of losing wars have been changed due to the Geneva conventions, which Israel isn't abiding by

@Nightzo Believe me, if Gazans were welcomed in other Arab countries then Israel would be only too happy to let them go. They would stamp their papers and let them go right through. But other Arab countries won't even take in the Palestinan refugees because they use their plight as a propaganda tool in their demonization of Israel as if to say that Israel victimized them when the truth is these Arabs started all the violence, waged all the wars, & lost - & there are consequences to losing.

@Nightzo You are picking up on the story long AFTER the murders and massacres of Jews. The Palestinians did have some militias and they certainly got a lot of help from neighboring Arab countries. The British were lousy peacekeepers from the start. They sat by & watched Jews get massacred and then denied them possession of weapons - that's why they had to form underground defense groups or face certain annihilation.

Palestinians didn't build paramilitaries as they were peaceful and felt that the British were doing a fine peacekeeping mission in Palestine before the creation of Israel. The Palestinians who managed to get arms to defend themselves from the invasion weren't organised. The invaders massacred unarmed villagers while the rest of them fled to avoid the same fate.

About Iron Dome - Prevention is better than cure.

Gazans can't move out because there's a blockade...

@Nightzo Palestinians Arabs could have done just what Israel did as far as building a military. They outnumberd the Jews and even received soldiers and weapons from other oil-rich Arab countries - and from Russia. Any military camps would not have been targeted if they did not throw the first punch. Israel certainly does care about its citizens - that's why they spent millions building the Iron Dome defense system to intercept such rockets. Why don't Gazans move out into other Arab countries?
