What an odd start...and such a slow tempo! zzzzzzzzzzzz...snore... It sounds like one of Strauss's Four Last Songs!

I will have to agree with many comments here. She is an awful musician. She doesn't honor the composer's intentions, only her ego. Just awful.

Totally wrong. Damn these singers and conductors who have no idea what compound meter is. This is in 6/8 which means it's in 2. Not 3/4. It's basic kindergarten facts. She's singing it twice as slow as the composer indicates. but of course these singers only care about themselves and not the music. She is a great singer but not a musician. This sounds like an exercise in slow practice. Shame!

UNFORGETTABLE ARIA AND SINGER, MY FAVORITE SOPRANO..

@JoelBWeisberg Yes gets my attention too. But what she does with this more than makes up for it. Now if we can get her a competent dressmaker. Oy.

Also a very nice rendition. Great voice! If only a modern tenor were worthy of doing a duet with her.

@chaconazo7 I not only have had a subscription to the Met for more years than you've probably been alive but have heard Renee there many times. She fills the House with her glorious voice and you, my friend, are a fool with a tin ear. Stop pretending that you know something about an art form that clearly eludes you.

pianosinger18 - I have heard Italian spoken in so many dialects and with so many nuances and it seems that everyone who comments is right? How absurd is it to make such petty discussion of such a performance? I admit I am not an opera scholar but I do know that opera is more about perfomance, soul and rythem than pronounciation. Tell you what...let's have a look at your performance...in anything and perhaps someone will listen to you.
A great woman, a great voice, love Renee for her beautifull voice and great personality...

singing of the highest order - from 2:12 to 2:30 it is as exquisite as it gets-- One breath with absolute perfect control-- Line up any other soprano you want- The entire performance of this aria is sublime --- To those who try to find fault-- They are the ones who always go after the best -- I understand--- that's their curse!
