An update to Judith's previous two papercrete mixing videos. Judith shows you how to take recycled paper and a little cement and make a eco- friendly green building material. The resulting papercrete is very light and easy to work with, plus it has an R value of about 3 per inch, uses recycled and easily obtained ingredients. For a beautiful home made from an energy efficient alternative building material try papercrete

  • here most coal ash contains arsenic and other highly toxic products. doesn't it in other places as well?

  • @Ladyhawkwright You may be right about that. I remember when I first started using it I did some research to make sure it was OK. I don't remember what I found but apparently I felt it was worth it. I would think it would depend on what was in the coal being burned. Sorry I don't have a more scientific answer. I will say though that when using fly ash in papercrete you don;t actually come into contact with it. Once it is mixed into the blocks or walls it is sealed up.

  • I like them all but it is easier for me to do papercrete without a lot of help. I did an earthbag foundation and that was OK but straw bales are hard to handle and need a lot of finishing and cob is hard to mix.

  • Thank you Judith! Great video!

    You're amazingly determined and independent!

  • @LUVTheMotels Thanks so much. Encouragement is well appreciated especially in this 100 degree heat. I have a new project going which is coming out great. I'll be posting progress on my blog.

  • Where are you building? Is a dessert area best for papercrete?

  • I am in northern New Mexico. Yes I would say the desert environment is perfect for making papercrete and for living in a well insulated papercrete house

  • do you like the papercrete more than other alternative building methodes like strawbail or earthbag? Or cob too.?

  • why not spray inside of the buckets and let it pour out.??
