Torrential rains in southern Philippines force tens of thousands from their homes. On Tuesday, June 1, more than 47,500 people in the southern province of Mindanao were asked to evacuate as water levels rose to waist deep in at least 27 villages in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao after incessant rains starting the previous Friday led to the overflowing of the Rio Grande River. Government agencies held an emergency meeting in Manila to coordinate efforts, with police personnel and some of the military's 603rd Infantry brigade dispatched as watchpersons to notify and assist residents in case of flash flooding as well as help transport stranded families from interior villages.

Our prayers are with the storm-afflicted as we thank the Philippine military, police and all other personnel for your swift work in helping ensure the safety of Mindanao's residents. May weather and infrastructure conditions soon improve to restore the normal day to day for southern Philippines.
